وعشرand ten ولكنand yet فاقَهsurpassed it فيin المصائبِcalamities
I see an ill-omened number—not like three
I see a number of misfortunes, not just three
And ten, but surpassing it in calamities.
Ten, and more, in calamities
هوit الأَلفُthe thousand لمdid not تعرفknow فلسطينُPalestine ضربةًa blow
أشدَّmore severe وأنكىand more devastating منهthan it يوماًever لضاربِby an assailant
It is a thousand; Palestine has never known a blow
It's the thousand, Palestine did not know a blow
More severe and devastating than it, ever dealt by an assailant.
More severe and painful than it from the striker

A thousand immigrate, then a thousand are smuggled in,
A thousand emigrate, then a thousand fleeing
And a thousand enter as tourists, not to return.
And a thousand enter as visitors, not returning

And a thousand passports, then a thousand means
And a thousand passports, then a thousand means
To ease the difficulties they encounter.
To facilitate what they face of difficulties
وفيand in البحرthe sea آلافٌthousands كأنَّas though عبابَهits surging waters

And at sea are thousands, as though its surging waters
And in the sea thousands, as if its waves
And its waves were packed into the ships.
And billows are laden in the boats

وهلand is there منany شعاعٍa ray of light بينamid تلكthose الغياهبdepths of darkness
Sons of my homeland, is there an awakening after slumber?
My people, is there wakefulness after slumber
And is there any ray amid those depths of darkness?
And is there a ray between those darknesses?
فوso, by اللهGod ماnot أدريI know ولليأسand despair has هبةٌa gust

أُناديI call upon أميناًAmin أمor أهيبI appeal براغبِto Raghib
So, by God, I do not know, in a gust of despair,
By Allah, I do not know, and despair has a gift
Whether to call upon Amin or appeal to Raghib.
Shall I call out hoping or appeal to the willing?
