Farewell—I will kill this passion.
Farewell, I will kill this passion
And bury it in the ribs of the years.
And bury it in the ribs of years

But come—did you not betray me?
But come, did you not betray?
Farewell—I will crush those hopes.

وَأَنسفهاand blast them بَدداًinto scattered fragments فيin الفَضاthe open air
سَأَهزَأI will mock بِالعشقat passionate love وَالعاشقينand lovers
And blast them to pieces in the air.
And scatter them asunder in space
I will mock passionate love and lovers.
I will mock love and lovers

وَلَكنbut تَعالَيcome أَلمdid you not تغدريbetray

And go on, heedless of fate.
And go nonchalant with fate
But come—did you not betray me?
But come, did you not betray?
وَداعاًfarewell وَهَيهاتand far beyond reach أَنthat نَلتَقيwe meet

Farewell—and our meeting is far beyond reach.
Farewell, and alas we will not meet
For I am no longer the beloved lover.
For I am no more the loving beloved
أَطيعيobey ذَويكyour kin بِماin what يَشتَهونthey desire
فَإِنfor indeed لَهُمto them فَوقَabove حَقthe claim of الغَريبthe stranger
Obey your kin in what they desire.
Obey your family in what they desire
For their claim is greater than the stranger's.
For they have a right above the stranger

But come—did you not betray me?
But come, did you not betray?
