The face of the Cause shines through your struggle;
The face of the cause is radiant through your struggle.
and through your struggle it wears the luster of your dignity.
And your dignity lends your struggle splendor.

What a heart is yours in old age! Indeed,
God bless your heart in your later years! Indeed, it has
it left youth abashed, with head bowed—
Left youth bowing its head in shame.

a heart behind gray hairs, ablaze with youthful passion,
A heart behind gray hair, aflame with youth,
like an ember smoldering beneath its ashes.
Like embers burning beneath their ashes.

جَيش مِن الأَيام حَولك محدقُ
You pressed forward until there stood, struck dumb with wonder,
You advanced boldly, till it was left marveling, speechless—
an army of days encircling you.
An army of days encircling you.

Those eighty years that you fulfilled—
Those eighty years that you have completed—
half of them would excuse anyone unable to keep pace.
In half that span lies an excuse for one who cannot keep pace.

Yet you raced through them, leaving the laggard
Yet at that age you took the lead, so no laggard has
no grounds for an excuse to cling to.
Any grounds for an excuse on which to rely.

You lived them like a great tree, its visible trunk
You lived them out like a great tree, whose outer wood
stout, yet ever tender, ever leafing.
Is hard, yet it stays fresh, ever putting forth leaves.

My country, I fear for you a people who have begun
My homeland, I fear for you because of people who have begun
asking one another: Who is the worthiest leader?
Asking one another, 'Who is the most suitable leader?'

Do not open the door of dissension, for it is
Do not open the door of discord, for it is
a door sealed upon dire consequences.
A door shut upon dark consequences.

By God, deliverance cannot be hoped for while your affairs
are chaos and the ranks of those who labor are torn apart.
Are in chaos, and the unity of those who work is torn apart.

They were a wall and a trench against humiliation?

Plunging into the blaze, each heart a legion?

Where are the hands that clasped and vied with one another,
Where are the hands that clasped and vied with one another,
building, making, spending for deliverance?
Building, creating, and spending for deliverance?

As for leadership, events themselves give it birth;
As for leadership, events are its mother;
it is granted and bestowed according to the measure of sacrifice.
It is granted and bestowed in proportion to sacrifice.

O son of the land—you who are lord of its earth
O son of the land, you are master of its earth
and its sky—I fear for you.
And its sky; indeed, I am deeply concerned for you.

Look at your livelihood: does it please you that it is
a spring dwindling away while emigration pours forth?
An ebbing water supply, while immigration pours in?

What can repel oppression from you—a pang of regret,
What will ward oppression off you—a pang of sorrow,
a moan, or a tear trembling in the eye?
Or a sigh, or a tear that trembles?

Or do you pour out your grievance, imagining its eloquence
Or your airing a complaint, believing its eloquence
to be magic, though its proof shines bright as noon?
To be magic, and its argument the dazzling light of morning?

When wronged, never take refuge in rhetoric:
Never resort to reasoning when you are wronged,
there, rhetoric is at its most futile.
For there, reasoning is at its most futile.

The President has passed into the shades of bliss,
The leader has passed into the shade of his bliss,
and a heart that beat for the Cause has come to rest.
And a heart beating for the cause has found rest.

His deeds fill all eyes, and his spirit
His works fill the eyes, and his spirit
fills every breast; his memory never grows old.
Fills the breasts, and his memory never wears out.
