أمامَك أيُّها العربيُّ يومٌ

تشيبُ لهولهِ سودُ النواصي

تشيبُ لهولهِ سودُ النواصي

Before you, O Arab, lies a day

whose terror turns black forelocks gray.

وأنت كما عهدتك لا تبالي

وأنت كما عهدتك لا تبالي

بغير مظاهِرِ العبَثِ الرّخاصِ

بغير مظاهِرِ العبَثِ الرّخاصِ

Yet you, as I have known you, care

for nothing but cheap displays of frivolity.

مصيرك بات يَلْمُسُه الأَّداني

مصيرك بات يَلْمُسُه الأَّداني

وسار حديثُهُ بين الأَقاصي

وسار حديثُهُ بين الأَقاصي

Your fate has become palpable to those nearby,

and word of it has spread among those far away.

فلا رَحْبُ القصور غداً بباقٍ

فلا رَحْبُ القصور غداً بباقٍ

لساكنها ولا ضيق الخصاصِ

لساكنها ولا ضيق الخصاصِ

So tomorrow the spaciousness of palaces will not remain

for their dwellers, nor the cramped confines of huts.

لنا خصمان ذو حوْلٍ وطوْلٍ

لنا خصمان ذو حوْلٍ وطوْلٍ

وآخر ذو احتيالٍ واقتناصِ

وآخر ذو احتيالٍ واقتناصِ

We have two foes: one possessed of might and wealth,

and another of cunning and ensnaring.

وتواصواْ بينهم قسأتى وبالاً

وتواصواْ بينهم قسأتى وبالاً

وإذلالاً لنا ذاك التواصي

وإذلالاً لنا ذاك التواصي

They counseled among themselves; [it proved] a calamity,

and a humiliation for us—that mutual counsel.

مناهجُ للابادة واضحاتٌ

مناهجُ للابادة واضحاتٌ

وبالحسنى تنفَّذُو الرصاصِ

وبالحسنى تنفَّذُو الرصاصِ

Clear are the plans for extermination,

and they are carried out by gentle means and bullets.
