The cup recounted a tale
The cup conveyed a tale
of your sweet front teeth:
Of thy tormenting folds
أنَّهthat it لولاwere it not for شذاهاtheir fragrance
لمnot يكنْbe لذَّtasted delicious وطابْand tasted pleasant
that, but for their fragrance,
Without its redolence
it would not have tasted delicious and pleasant;
No joy or balm it holds
لمnot يكنbe يُسكِرُintoxicate لولاwere it not for
أنهthat it مسَّtouched الرُّضابْthe sweet saliva
it would not intoxicate, were it not
Without its brushing by
that it had touched your sweet saliva.
The ruby of thy lips

كالصَّباlike the east wind فيin الغَلَسِthe predawn darkness
Send forth the melody, plaintive,
Send the melody pouring
like the east wind in the predawn gloom.
Like the breeze in the night

It is to my soul, O my soul,
