وسلَّت من الراح سلسالها
She spread her crimson wine over the soul,
Her tears dragged through my soul
And drew her limpid draught from the wine.
And loosened from the wind its chains

لعيني فتحسبها خالها
It shone as a beauty mark on the maiden's cheek,
A mole assumes the cheek of a girl

تعمَّدت افصم خلخالها
And oh, many a lady with an earring there—
By the Lord of the lady there wearing earrings

وماand not كنتI was احسبI suppose نفسthe soul of القتيلthe slain one
وما كنت احسب نفس القتيل

بعينك تعشق قتَّالها
And I never thought the soul of one slain
And I did not expect the soul of the slain
By your eye would love its slayer.
With your eyes to love his killer
