O brother of beauty, my days of youth are long past.
O brother of beauty, my pact with youth is old
Indeed, after my hair turned gray, I nearly went mad with love for you.
I almost, after gray hair, became infatuated with you
اخاO brother of الحسنbeauty عيشيmy life قبلformerly كلall شقاوةmisery
ومنand from بعدafterward عيشيmy life عادbecame وهوand it was نعيمbliss
O brother of beauty, once my life was nothing but misery,
O brother of beauty, live before any wretchedness
And afterward my life turned to bliss.
And after living, it returns and is bliss
لقدindeed لامنيhe blamed me منthe one whom كنتI used to فيكover you الومهblame him
فماso not اناI الاexcept لائمٌone who blames وملومand one who is blamed
Indeed, he whom I used to blame over you has blamed me.
Those I loved blamed me
So I am only one who blames and is blamed.
Yet I am nothing but a blamer and blamed

And I never thought passion would sway my soul,
And I did not let my soul be inclined by passion
But the devil of souls is accursed.
But the devil of souls is banished

My soul be ransom for him, generous by nature, never base,
By my soul - easygoing not mean
Noble—and my tears for him flow generously.
Generous, and I have generous tears for it

I bid my eye hold back its tears,
I task my eye to hold back its tears
And who can hold back tears when they pour in torrents?
And who can hold back tears and is solemn

And I hide my secret about you, though the secret is widely known.
And I conceal my secret in you and the secret is spread
And can a keeper of secrets conceal a secret made public?
And does the spreading secret conceal concealment?

I remain steadfast in my love; from you I bear within my breast
Resident upon my love and from you in seclusion
A burning grief that dwells between the curves of my ribs.
An atmosphere between the ribs resident

So join the cord of love; estrangement stands in its way,
So join the rope of love and estrangement before it
Cutting the cord of union, leaving it in tatters.
That severs the rope of connection and it is mended

When a fragrant breath from the back of your head wafts over me,
If you blow me from your cheek a breeze
Then I do not smell musk, fragrant though it is.
Then I do not smell musk and it is fragrant

I scorn the ben-tree breeze's fragrance and softness
The breeze of frankincense scented the leaves
When a breeze from your cheeks blows toward me.
If it blows for me from your two cheeks a breeze

If you are not a gazelle, you have traits
If you are not a gazelle, in you are traits
Of the gazelle that tell me you are a gazelle.
Of the gazelle that tell me you are a gazelle

And you are the one whose beauty puts the fair to shame:
And you whom the sailor's beauty is like
You are like the full moon, and the fair are stars.
As if you are a full moon and the sailors are stars

Through you I plucked the tormenting sorrow from my breast,
I removed with you the removable grief from seclusion
Whenever sorrows grappled within my sides.
When you stayed beside me, worries

And if anyone is naive, ignorant of love for graceful beauties,
And whoever was vain in the love of the antelope, ignorant
I, for my part, am well versed in the ways of passion.
I, by the causes of passion, am knowledgeable

I traverse my day for you, though its noontides are scorching,
I traverse my day in you and it is transient
And pass my night for you, though it is pitch-dark.
And I traverse my night in you and it is fleeting

And I cross the desert unguided, though it is full of terrors,
And I climbed the white desert and it has dunes
And inhale the oblique wind, though it is a scorching simoom.
And I climbed the hunched backs and they have poison
