متى ترعى المودة والعهودا
I see you always bestowing rejection on me.
I see you granting me only rejections
When will you honor affection and pledges?
When will you tend to affection and pacts?

How long will you frighten a heart with abandonment,
To whom do you abandon a heart
A heart still enamored and stricken with love for you?
That with your love has not ceased being staunch?

O hope of loved ones, will you ever, one day,

Return? For my wish is that you return.
A day when you would return so I'd be delivered?

I was callous when crying but
Your departure made my unshed tear flow.
Your remoteness made my rigidity liquefy.

Whose conscience showed spiteful grudges.

I would not have wished to content myself with a land
I would not have loved to be pleased with a land
Where I pillow my forearms on the bare ground.
On which I cushion my elbows with dust.
