Eid's dawn shone in you, and so became

radiant, while the turtledove of joy sang.

And when you returned, it returned in you, blossoming,

smiling to reveal the mouth of joy renewed.

All people now congratulate you, after

yielding the reins therein to your eminence.

No wonder they now congratulate a noble man,

without whom the worlds' unity would have fallen apart.

He is the exalted one, rising through his glory

to a height of eminence whose summits have surpassed Farqad.

I have readied him as my support, with which I strike

against foes, if time should oppress and transgress.

He has become a guardian of the upright faith,

and a source and wellspring for the sciences.

On glory's horizon his countenance appeared,

which the full moon could not match when it appeared.

Whoever foolishly compares him with another

    is comparing gold with copper.

    You seek a sea whose billows have swelled high;

even if the sea ran dry, his bounty would not run out.

You see him, whenever a desolating drought spreads,

or a calamity strikes terror, worse than death's assault,

like rain if you come to him seeking bounty,

and like a lion whenever you come to him seeking help.

He unsheathes a decisive judgment in the sciences,

sharper than an Indian sword when drawn bare.

Had he not stood forth for learning, proclaiming it openly,

learning, with its two eyes, would have been left untended.

His is a palm whose bounty has never been sought

by a seeker without his attaining his goal.

Many an envier of mine has begun to show resentment

out of his hatred of you—may you be rid of enviers!
