جمراً توقد منه في الحشا نارا
From the eye flows the eye's water, bursting forth
Tears flow from my eyes like a spring,
As embers from which you kindle a fire within the breast.
Igniting embers in the darkness like fire.

I see you, O son of Abu al-Warha, reproaching me,
I see you, O son of Abi Warha, blaming me
Though I have not found what I said disgraceful.
Where I have found no fault that merits blame.

The knot in the lovesick heart is loosened
It unfastens a knot in the heart of the love-smitten one,
By his adorned breast, when he undoes the buttons.
A heart adorned when its fasteners are unloosed.

I scent upon him Najd's east wind, meeting
I smell the fragrant breeze from his Najd opposite me,
A breeze from the lowlands; another whom it caressed grew jealous.
A breeze from Ghor that has embraced a cave other than mine.
