بدا للروح نجمٌ يزدهيه
شبيهresembling البدرthe full moon جاءhe came بلاwithout شبيهan equal
شبيه البدر جاء بلا شبيه
A star appeared to the soul, enchanting it.
A star began to shine for the soul
Like the full moon, he came without an equal.
Like the full moon, it came unmatched
اخوهhis brother الظبيthe gazelle ذاكthat عليكupon you انَّىhow
اخوه الظبي ذاك عليك انَّى
نحاولwe seek منكfrom you احلىsweeter منthan اخيهhis brother
نحاول منك احلى من اخيه
His brother is the gazelle; that rests with you—how
My brother, you who are so wise
could we seek from you one sweeter than his brother?
We ask from you what's sweeter than your brother
ستطلقهwill unleash him لكfor you الايامthe days عضباًa sharp sword
ستطلقه لك الايام عضباً
رهيفkeen شباًof edge لأربعat four منof سنيهhis years
رهيف شباً لأربع من سنيه
The days will unleash him for you as a sharp sword,
The days will unleash him angrily
keen of edge, at four years of age.
A gentle youth of fourteen years
فقلso say فيهof him رضيعa nursling لبانbreast milk عزhonor
فقل فيه رضيع لبان عز
بثديat the breast of الفضلexcellence مرتضعاsuckling بفيهwith his mouth
بثدي الفضل مرتضعا بفيه
So say of him: a nursling of honor's milk,
So say he is a suckling infant
suckling with his mouth at the breast of excellence.
Suckling the breast of merit contentedly
انبِّهI draw attention مكملwhat completes التاريخthe chronogram فيهin it
انبِّه مكمل التاريخ فيه
بسقطby subtracting الفردthe single unit للفطنfor the shrewd النبيهthe discerning
بسقط الفرد للفطن النبيه
I point out what completes the chronogram in it:
Alert him, the completer of history
by subtracting one, for the shrewd and discerning.
With the fall of the individual to the wise prophet
اتىhe came لأبto a father ربيبnurtured in حجىwisdom بعامٍin a year
اتى لأب ربيب حجى بعامٍ
بهin it امتازstood apart الحليمthe prudent منfrom السفيهthe foolish
به امتاز الحليم من السفيه
He came to a father nurtured in wisdom, in a year
He came to a fatherly lord in a year
in which the prudent stood apart from the foolish.
In which the forebearing was distinguished from the fool
بهin it امُّthe mother of العلىglory ولدتgave birth فأرخso record the date
به امُّ العلى ولدت فأرخ
محمدٌMuhammad الرضاal-Rida مولودborn فيهin it
محمدٌ الرضا مولود فيه
In it the mother of glory gave birth; so record the date:
The mother of the Most High gave birth, so record
Muhammad al-Rida was born in it.
