A sovereign of the age, to whom proud kings have bowed,

In East and West, barefoot and shod alike.

The crown of kingdoms, whose protection has spread,

To safeguard the realm among the seven states.

A keen-edged sword, its hilt in the palm of Time,

And the sword has cut only in a hero’s hands.

Without him, Baghdad would not have stood on its feet,

Nor would justice have walked there with a drunken gait.

Indeed, the office of naqib is not fit for every young man,

But only for one who is neither feeble nor dependent on others.

And the office of naqib is but a robe of virtue,

No one but you has been found wrapped in it.
