  1. زعمت بثينة والعجائب جمةٌ

    أني وصلت بغيرها حبل الهوى

    Buthayna claimed—and wonders are many—

    that I had tied love’s cord to someone other than her.

  2. سنحت جآذر رامةٍ فرمقتها

    فتوهمت أني جنحت إلى السوى

    The wild-ox calves of Ramah appeared, and I gazed at them;

    so she imagined that I had turned toward someone else.
