بَلَدُcity الخلافةthe caliphate فيin الجمالbeauty فريدpeerless
بَلَدُ الخلافة في الجمال فريد
ولِشأنِهand for its grandeur عَرْضٌbreadth مداهits extent بعيدfar-reaching
ولِشأنِه عَرْضٌ مداه بعيد
The city of the caliphate is peerless in beauty.
The land of caliphate is unique in beauty
And its grandeur has a breadth that extends far.
And its glory has a far reaching breadth
مَنْwhoever ظنَّthought يُحْسِنُis skilled at وصفَهdescribing it فكأنّماthen it is as though
مَنْ ظنَّ يُحْسِنُ وصفَه فكأنّما
نَحْوَtoward الصّعودِthe ascent الىto السّماءthe sky يريدhe seeks
نَحْوَ الصّعودِ الى السّماء يريد
Whoever thinks he can describe it well—it is as though
He who thinks to aptly describe it is as though
He were seeking to ascend to the sky.
