1. يا مثالَ النّعال تفديك نفسي

    من مثال لم يحكِه من مثال

    O likeness of the sandals, may my soul ransom you!

    What a likeness—no other likeness has matched it!

  2. فزتَ منها بنسبةٍ ذاتِ وصل

    تقتضي أن تُجَلَّ مثلَ النّعال

    You have gained from them a bond of connection

    That calls for you to be revered like the sandals.

  3. فهنيئاً بِكَوْنِ مثلك كانت

    مَوْطِئَ المصطفى الكريمِ الخِلال

    So joy to you, for what you resemble was

    The footrest of the Chosen One, noble in character.

  4. وهنيئاً لمشتفٍ منك يوماً

    طالما عاقه حدودُ اللّيالي

    And joy to one who found healing through you one day,

    Whom the bounds of the nights had long hindered:

  5. مُدْنفٍ في بَرَاهُ شوقٌ فأضحى

    كالهلال الجديد بل كالخيال

    A lovesick man—longing had wasted him, so he became

    Like the new crescent, or rather like a phantom.

  6. قبّل الوجنتين منك بوجد

    واقتضى ما اقتضى بطيب وِصَال

    He kissed your two cheeks with ardent longing,

    And gained what he gained through sweet union.

  7. واشتكى سائلاً إليك فولّى

    غانما ظافرا بُنجح السؤال

    And complained to you, pleading, then departed

    Enriched and triumphant through the success of his plea.

  8. إنّما أنت آيةٌ كلَّ حين

    يجتديك الورى لضيق المجال

    You are indeed a sign; at every moment

    Humankind seeks your bounty when the way is narrow.

  9. آيةٌ للرّسول تبقَى وكم مِنْ

    آيةٍ للرّسول ذاتِ اتّصال

    An enduring sign of the Messenger—and how many

    Signs of the Messenger have unbroken continuity!

  10. قد حكَتك العصا بتنويع سُؤْلٍ

    غير أنّ العصا غَدَت في زوال

    The staff resembled you in fulfilling varied wishes,

    Yet the staff has passed away.

  11. والعصا خُصّصَتْ بموسى ولكن

    عمّ كلَّ العبادِ نفعُ المثال

    And the staff was reserved for Moses, but

    The likeness's benefit has reached all God's servants.

  12. فانظرِ الفضلَ يا أخا الفضل واعْلَمْ

    أنّ فضل النبيِّ في كلّ حال

    So behold this excellence, O man of excellence, and know

    That the Prophet's excellence abides in every circumstance.

  13. يا نبيَّ الهدى وخَيْرَ كريمٍ

    باسطاً كفَّهُ لبذلِ النَّوَال

    O Prophet of guidance, and best of the generous,

    Who stretches out his palm to bestow bounty,

  14. ومُرَجَّى الورى إذا عمّ خَطْبٌ

    ظنّ منه البريءُ نَيْلَ النّكال

    And the hope of humankind when calamity engulfs all,

    Because of which even the innocent expects punishment,

  15. يوم لا ينفعُ الخليقةَ شيءٌ

    غَيْرَ تقديم صالحِ الأعمال

    On the day when nothing benefits creation

    Except the offering of righteous deeds.

  16. إِنّ لي مطلبا وليس سوى أن

    تقبلَ الخوجةَ الحميدَ الفعال

    Indeed, I have a request, and it is only that

    You accept the Khoja, praiseworthy in his deeds,

  17. تَرتَضِيه لنَيل أجرٍ وعفوٍ

    وفسيحٍ من القصور العوالي

    And deem him worthy to receive reward and pardon,

    And spacious quarters among the lofty palaces,

  18. وجِوارٍ في عِلِّيّين إذا ما

    عمّ أهلَ الوقوف خوفُ الوبال

    And nearness in ʿIlliyyin, when

    Fear of doom engulfs those standing for judgment.

  19. وتُرِيه يا أكْرَمَ الخلق وجهاً

    حاز مَنْ قد رآه كلَّ المعالي

    And show him, O most generous of creation, a face

    Whose beholder has attained every lofty honor.

  20. صاحبُ الطّابع المُعَلَّى مُحِبٌّ

    فيكَ يبغي رضاكَ يا خيرَ عال

    The keeper of the exalted seal is devoted

    To you, seeking your favor, O best of the exalted.

  21. فُنُقٌ صالحٌ رؤوفٌ رحيمٌ

    يبتغي من نداك حسن المآل

    Refined [reading uncertain], righteous, compassionate, merciful,

    He seeks from your bounty a favorable end.

  22. فَاكْسُه من رضاك سِتْراً عميماً

    سابغاً ضافياً وفيَّ الكمال

    So clothe him, from your favor, in an all-enveloping mantle,

    Ample and flowing, complete in perfection.

  23. وصلاةٌ على الرّسول دواماً

    عَرْفُها شاملٌ لِصَحْبٍ وآل

    And blessings upon the Messenger forever,

    Whose fragrance embraces his Companions and household.
