لقد كنت قدماً قبل أن يُكْشَفَ الغطا
إِخَالُكَI imagine you أنّيthat I حامدٌpraising لكto you شاكِرُthankful
إِخَالُكَ أنّي حامدٌ لك شاكِرُ
Indeed, long ago, before the veil was lifted, I used to
Before the cover was lifted, you thought I was praising you, thanking you,
Think that I was praising you and thanking you.
But when the matter became clear, you became certain
فلماbut when تجلّىbecame clear الأمرُthe matter أصبَحْتI became مُوقِناًcertain
فلما تجلّى الأمرُ أصبَحْت مُوقِناً
بأنّكthat you are مذكورٌremembered وذكرٌand remembrance وذاكرُand one who remembers
بأنّك مذكورٌ وذكرٌ وذاكرُ
But when the matter became clear, I became certain
That you are the one mentioned, remembered, and remembering.
That you are the remembered, remembrance, and the one who remembers.
