إذاif بِعْثَyou sell (apparently intended) مطعوماًa foodstuff بمطعومfor a foodstuff آخرanother
إذا بِعْثَ مطعوماً بمطعوم آخر
فإنthen if كانit is بالتأجيلwith deferment فامنعهthen forbid it مطلقاwithout exception
فإن كان بالتأجيل فامنعه مطلقا
If you sell one foodstuff for another foodstuff,
If one intoxicant is mixed with another
then, if it involves deferment, forbid it without exception.
And if delayed, then prohibit it absolutely
ويُحْرَمُand is forbidden فيwithin الجنسthe same kind التّفاضلُunequal amounts إنْif هماthe two
ويُحْرَمُ في الجنس التّفاضلُ إنْ هما
يكوناare ذويpossessors of قوتٍsustenance وذخرٍand storability فيُتَّقَىso it must be avoided
يكونا ذوي قوتٍ وذخرٍ فيُتَّقَى
And unequal amounts within the same kind are forbidden if both
And comparing within a category is forbidden if both
are staple foods suitable for storage; so this must be avoided.
Have potency and provision, so it must be avoided
وحرِّمْهُمَاand forbid them both فيin النّقدcoinage والجنسُwhile the kind واحدٌis one
وحرِّمْهُمَا في النّقد والجنسُ واحدٌ
وللنسءand as for deferment فامْنَعْthen forbid حيثماwherever الجنسthe kind ماdoes not الْتَقَىmatch
وللنسء فامْنَعْ حيثما الجنس ما الْتَقَى
And forbid both in coinage when it is of the same kind;
And prohibit both regarding cash, though the category is one
and as for deferment, forbid it wherever the kinds do not match.
And for metals, so prevent wherever the category has not met
ومهماand whenever تبعْyou sell عَرْضاًgoods بِعرضٍfor goods فإِنَّهthen indeed it
ومهما تبعْ عَرْضاً بِعرضٍ فإِنَّه
سوىother than الجنسthe same kind بالتأجيلwith deferment والفضلand excess يُنْتَقَىis chosen
سوى الجنس بالتأجيل والفضل يُنْتَقَى
And whenever you sell goods for goods, the exchange,
And whatever follows incidentally with an incident, then it
if the kinds differ, is permissible with deferment and unequal amounts.
Is the same as delaying and choosing the best is to be avoided
وأَجْرُand treat (intended imperative) اختلافdifference النفعin use مجرىas equivalent to تخالفa difference
وأَجْرُ اختلاف النفع مجرى تخالف
بجنسin kind هناhere فاحفظso remember فلاso may you never زلتyou cease to be ذاpossessing تُقَىpiety
بجنس هنا فاحفظ فلا زلت ذا تُقَى
And treat a difference in use as a difference
And the reward of differing benefits runs the course of differing
in kind here; remember this, and may you ever remain pious.
