This is a tomb—oh, what a sight!
This is a tomb—what a sight it is!
Within it the sun of al-Bashir Muhammad has set.
Within it, the sun of al-Bashir Muhammad has set.

He is the one from whom no litany’s draught is absent;
And he is the one: no draught is sweet to drink
among them, his is the sweetest watering-place.
but his is the sweetest spring among them.

He is the one whom no one ever saw without saying:
And he is the one whom none has seen without saying:
Among ascetics and worshippers, no one is his equal.
"No devout ascetic is his equal."

Ask Mecca and Medina about him: how much ground he crossed,
broad desert wastes toward them beneath his mounts’ tread.
with the strides of mounts toward them, across barren plains!

of bounty, surging like a foaming sea!

the Messenger’s family, noble lords and highborn descendants, who
the Messenger's family, the noble, highborn lords, who
inherited lordship, one master from another.
inherited lordship, one lord from another.

Piety and every virtue adorned them,
Piety and every virtue adorned them,
as silver and gold lend glory to a bracelet.
and the bracelet took pride in silver and gold.

Who equals them in merit? Every soul granted success
Who equals them in excellence? And everyone granted success

sets out at dawn, by their guidance, to attain excellence.

Do not marvel if their sons have risen
in noble deeds to the station of the Pole Star.
in noble deeds to the height of the star Farqad.

attained his hopes through his peerless inward secret.
attained his hopes in his unique inner mystery.

When he passed on, al-Bashir came in his wake,
When he passed away, al-Bashir came after him,
a light by which the seeker of guidance finds the way.
a light by which the seeker of guidance finds the way.

Whoever sees him remembers his Lord after heedlessness,
Whoever sees him remembers his Lord, roused from heedlessness,
and revives his heart with a guide’s words.
and his heart comes alive through a guiding word.

And how often he prayed, and difficult aims yielded
to his supplication, though they yielded to no one else.
through his prayer, though they would yield to no one else!

His noble deeds are renowned; their number eludes you—
His noble deeds became renowned, and counting them is beyond you;
if you would number the stars, then number them.
if you seek to number the stars, then count!

So make your way to visit him with a sincere heart,
So seek to visit him with a sincere heart,
and call upon the Generous One, for He is ever watchful.
and invoke the Generous One, for He keeps watch.

No wonder that, marking the date, I said of him:
No wonder that I said of him, composing a chronogram:
“Take refuge in his sanctuary, and at the goal your wish shall be yours.”
"Seek refuge in his sanctuary, for at the place you seek you shall have your wishes."
