The musk of blessings and the perfumes of peace come in succession

Upon you; before them, all fragrances grow abashed.

O mercy bestowed upon the worlds as guidance,

Had you not existed, no universe of wondrous adornment would have existed.

O my master, O intercessor for all creation,

When every messenger says, “That is not for me.”

We have come to you, having wronged ourselves,

Seeking forgiveness for our burdens, in dread.

So look upon your visitors, and graciously seek forgiveness for them,

For your bounty in welcoming has never ceased.

We are your guests, O best of creation in hospitality,

In need of whatever guest-fare comes from you.

We have come to you from far-flung lands, carried

By good hope toward your kindness, pouring like rain.

We never lacked bounty from afar; how could we, now that

Near you, we have become like the sun in Aries?

O mercy of God in all the worlds, O

Muhammad, Ahmad, O best of messengers!

You came with the truth from God; you never

Yielded in it to weakness or sloth.

You strove with true striving for His pleasure, until

The faith shone forth on plain and mountain.

    لم تَخْشَ يوماً ولم تحفل بِمُنْخَذِل

    And you stood for God in proclaiming His faith;

You never feared, nor heeded anyone who faltered,

Until the faith of Islam became triumphant,

Rising above all other religions and creeds.

And that bears out what is recited: “That He may make it prevail,”

Despite the noses of the people of unbelief and folly.

Blessed is whoever follows the light you brought,

By which one walks through the gardens of knowledge and action.

And woe to whoever would not lift his head for it, and so ended up

Through his loss, in the chasms of deviation and stumbling.

Here we are before you in intimate converse, bearing witness that

There is no Lord of creation but the One, the Eternal,

And that you are the mercy bestowed by Him upon all

Other than Him, so that affairs may be set straight, free of deviation.

And that all the tidings you conveyed

Are truth and veracity, in detail and as a whole.

This is our testimony, my treasure kept with you; and whoever

Entrusts it to the Chosen One is never disappointed in hope.

    Yes, and I have a need in my heart that you know;

I have no life without it; by your life, grant it to me.

Yes, and another, momentous indeed, for which I am not

Worthy; and you are the one we look to for great matters.

Oh, how often I sought it from those who begrudged it,

So, after despair, I would content myself with returning.

And now I have come to you, turning aside to no one else.

You are the generous one who gives without delay.

Look upon my abasement, love-sick apart from you; for if

You look, I shall trail my robes in the glory of union.

And have mercy on a heart burning in the fire of loss,

And look upon tears streaming down from loss.

The nights of my estrangement have grown long, and too short

Are my hands to strip away the ailments I was clothed in.

O my master, life has passed, and no success has come

To my hand in attaining what exhausted all my stratagems.

Indeed, I have sought access through the Names and the greatest of them,

And through all that is counted among the greatest means of union.

Grant me union through the passing nights, so that

I may die with my heart intoxicated by joy.

May He who said to us in the Remembrance bless you:

Send blessings with ceaseless tears, together with salutations of peace.

And may God send peace—a salutation fragrant with

The musk of the close, at sunrise and twilight.

Then may favor rest on Abu Bakr and on Umar,

And the modest one, Abu Amr, and likewise Ali,

And everyone who, O best of creation, has with you

A bond of affiliation that is never severed.
