Behold it—a light that has appeared, plain to see.

A man grown fortunate finds refuge in it.

In the darkness of the markets it shone, as though

Morning had unfurled banners over the darkness.

Oh, how Satan wailed because of it when the call

Rang out, so he fled, abased and driven away!

And what a boon for the fortunate, when they were not distracted by

Anything, and so responded, bowing and prostrating!

By it, the eyes of the devout were gladdened,

And through it the faction of wretchedness was stricken at heart.

For God it was founded by one who hopes

That he will attain his promised reward.

His trade yielded profit: he spent what perishes,

To gain everlasting life in the abode of bliss.

So for deeds like this, discerning minds race one another,

And for it the livers of the noble are torn asunder.

So accept it from its builder, O Lord of all creation,

You who never frustrate the aim of one who hopes.

And by Your grace answer my prayer, as I said in

Its chronogram: ‘May He reward al-Sughayyir generously.’
