    وكَيْفَ ويومَ لاح سعدُكَ عيدُ

    The robe of this world's bliss is new upon you;

and how could it be otherwise, when the day your fortune dawned is a feast?

And God has subtle favors in what He has bestowed on you,

which brought the matter near, though it was far away.

Kingship is brought to you without effort, and what is truly

brought is enduring joy for humankind.

It came to you willingly, for you are worthy of it,

and said, 'This is what I have, ready at hand.'

    وأنتَ بكلتا الحالتين مجيد

    Had it strayed, it would have gained no glory and come to you under compulsion;

while you are glorious in either case.

How could kingship turn away from you, when you are one

whose glory is both newly won and inherited?

    وسيفُك مرهوبٌ الغرار حديد

    Your brow is radiant, and your hand a downpour;

and your sword's edge is feared and keen.

Kings now departed swayed, and their praise

is great and grows with the passage of time.

A noble son and a father formed a harmonious succession,

with an uncle and a grandfather, peerless among kings:

a necklace the bright stars wish were theirs,

whose order even neatly strung pearls envy.

Kings passed away, themselves stars of good fortune; still

we have among their offspring one who brings happiness and is fortunate.

So let us not grieve that Hammuda, the full moon, has departed:

for in Uthman is what we seek, and more.

A king: when you behold the radiance of his face,

his modesty spares you from having—from having—a witness arise.

    إذا طاشَتِ الأحلام فهو وئيد

    The firmly rooted mountains envy his endurance;

when minds lose their balance, he is composed.

And his frame stirs for acts of obedience and generosity,

as a lovesick man with an enraptured heart stirs.

Have you not seen how swiftly he rose against evil,

scattering it away from his people and destroying it?

Thus the mouth of faith smiled because of that,

and its devil became a fugitive throughout East and West.

And how many unseen hands you lend to set things right,

whose bounty comes to us afresh and returns again.

If al-Khadra rejoices at the sight of you,

your light burns in the farthest lands.

May you ever be watched over by an eye of care,

and may your kingdom endure through mighty victory.

May your two illustrious sons ever be a delight to your eyes,

and may you be praised by all the worlds contain.
