وإنand although كانis ليfor me قلبٌa heart بِخَوْفِكَwith fear of you واجفُtrembling
My good hopes have led me toward your pardon,
My beautiful thoughts lead me to hope for your pardon,
even though my heart trembles in fear of you.
Though my heart is filled with fear of you.
وذنبيand my sin وإنand even if حقّتwas justly due عليّupon me جحيمُهits hellfire
فَعَفْوُكَyet your pardon ظِلٌّshade لِلْمُؤَمِّلfor the hopeful وارفُample
And even if my sin's hellfire is justly due to me,
And though my sin deserves hellfire,
yet your pardon is ample shade for the hopeful.
Your pardon is a shade for one hopeful and familiar.
وفيand in المصطفىthe Chosen One الهاديthe Guide لمثلكfor one like you أُسْوَةٌan example
وكمand how many مُجْرِمٍan offender وَافَتْهُreached him منهfrom him عواطفُacts of compassion
And in the Chosen One, the Guide, one such as you has an example;
In the Chosen One, the Guide, is a model for one like you,
and how many an offender has received compassion from him!
And how many criminals has he covered with his compassion.
وهلand is ذاكthat إلاّexcept أنّthat ذُخْراًa treasure تُعِدّهyou store it
وذكراand renown تولّىundertook نَشْرَهُspreading it لكfor you عارفُa discerning man
And is that not a treasure you lay up,
Is this not but that he prepares a store,
and renown that a discerning man has undertaken to spread for you?
And a remembrance he has undertaken to spread for you, O knower.
وماand no بعدbeyond نَشْرِspreading الذّكرrenown للمرءfor a man مَفْخَرٌa source of pride
ولاnor بسوىthrough anything other than مدحٍpraise تشفَّعsought intercession خائفُone in fear
And a man has no greater glory than the spreading of his renown,
And after spreading the remembrance there is no pride for man,
nor has one in fear sought intercession through anything but praise.
Nor with anything but praise does the fearful intercede.
وحاشاand far be it لفضلٍfrom bounty منْكَfrom you أنthat يُنشِدَshould recite الورىhumankind
وقدand indeed عَلِمُواthey know أنّيthat I بِبَابِكَat your door واقفُstanding
And far be it from your bounty that people should recite,
It is inconceivable that your bounty asks the people,
knowing that I stand at your door:
When they know that I stand at your door.

"And before, every client invoked kinship,
Before this each friend called out kinship,
yet compassion moved no patron toward him."
But you did not turn in compassion to him, O intimate.
