She grew bewildered, and her physician and her remedy were gone.

Oh my soul, how prolonged is her torment!
حكمcontrolled الشذوذwaywardness عنانهاher reins فتمردتso she rebelled
حكم الشذوذ عنانها فتمردت
بجموحهاwith her wildness وتعددتand multiplied أدواؤهاher ailments
بجموحها وتعددت أدواؤها
Waywardness controlled her reins, so she rebelled
The rule of strangeness tightened its reins so she rebelled
With her wildness, and her ailments multiplied.
With her rashness, and her cures diversified
تشكوshe complains عسىperhaps الشكوىthe complaint تلطفalleviates ماwhat بهاis within her
تشكو عسى الشكوى تلطف ما بها
فيخيبso is dashed فيin المشكوthe one addressed in complaint إليهاto her رحاؤهاher hope (likely intended: رجاؤها)
فيخيب في المشكو إليها رحاؤها
She complains, hoping complaint may ease what ails her.

والصبر في هذا الوجود عزاؤها
And she returns, patient despite the reluctance within her.
And she returns, patient with the pain inside her
And patience in this existence is her consolation.

تجدshe finds الشقاءmisery ملذةa delight ولوand even if أنهاthat she
تجد الشقاء ملذة ولو أنها
رأتshe saw النعيمbliss لكانthen would be فيهin it شقاؤهاher misery
رأت النعيم لكان فيه شقاؤها
She finds misery a delight, and even if she

جعل النفوس تباينت أهواؤها
Glory be to You, O God! For a wise purpose You willed
Glory to You, O Lord, in Your wisdom
To make souls with differing desires.
