ودمعكand your tears تسبقهprecede them أدمعيmy tears
We are both ailing, so do not be distraught.
We're both afflicted, so do not fret,
And my tears precede yours.
Your tears preceded by my own eyes wet,
وإنand if كانthere is بينbetween ضلوعكyour ribs نارfire
فنارthen the fire الصبابةpassionate longing فيin أضلعيmy ribs
And if there is fire between your ribs,
If there's fire amid your ribs' cleft,
then the fire of longing is within my ribs.
Youth's flame amid my ribs has met,
وإنand if كانhad نجمthe star هنائكyour joy غابset
فنجمthen the star هنائيَmy joy لمdid not يطلعrise
And if the star of your joy has set,
If your luck star's misfortune has beset,
then the star of my joy has not risen.
My fortune star did not rise yet.
