ماnot كنتI was بالفانيone who perishes وسرُّكand your secret حافظيmy guardian
ما كنت بالفاني وسرُّك حافظي
وبمقلتيكand through your two eyes ضَمِنتُI secured كلَّall of خلوديmy immortality
وبمقلتيك ضَمِنتُ كلَّ خلودي
I was not one to perish, with your secret guarding me.
I was not ephemeral and your secret was my keeper
And through your eyes I secured all my immortality.
And in your eyes I secured all my eternity
الآنnow أعرفI know ماwhat الحياةlife وطيبُهاand its sweetness
الآن أعرف ما الحياة وطيبُها
وأقولand I say للأيّامto the days طبتِyou have become sweet فعوديso return
وأقول للأيّام طبتِ فعودي
Now I know what life is, and its sweetness.
Now I know what life is and its goodness
And I tell the days, "You have become sweet, so return!"
And I say to the days you were good so welcome back
عادreturned الربيعspring علىat يديكyour two hands وأشرقتand grew radiant
عاد الربيع على يديك وأشرقت
روحيmy soul وأورقand put forth leaves فيin ربيعكyour spring عوديmy bough
روحي وأورق في ربيعك عودي
Spring returned at your hands, and radiant grew
Spring has returned by your hand and
My soul; and my bough put forth leaves in your spring.
My soul shone and my lute sprouted leaves in your spring, welcome back
