In your absence, the lands divide me among them,
Share with me in your home, O dwellings
And you are my only homeland.
For you are to me the one homeland

Save my lips from the torment of thirst.
My exile's wage, from the torment of thirst
Has God not allowed them to be shown mercy?
Has God not allowed you to have mercy

Do you persist in estrangement until you see us
Having wept blood, with our mouths scorched?
Weeping blood and hearts ablaze yet unmoved

My nights passed as barren dust;
Nights have passed, barren, fruitless
So will the remaining nights follow one another in vain?
Will you idle away the remainder in vain?

I ask my wounds who inflicted them
And I gaze, then ask the sickbed visitors for news.
And I make them speak and investigate the accustomed

Nor comforted me with hopes of reunion tomorrow.
Nor excused tomorrow's reunion

تلفت أسألُ عنك العدا
So when even the lover turned cold,
So when even the lover denies
I looked around, asking the enemies about you.
I turn and ask about you, O foe

Forget the pain, here or it's said
You brought darkness to his radiance.
I carried the darkness to its lights

Do you set out for the thresholds of bliss
Shall I go to the thresholds of bliss
With hell's scorching blast and its whirlwind?
With the scorch of hell and its storm?
