O portrait of the one who gave love
O image of the one who gave love
The key to my locked heart.
The key to my locked heart

In loving him, my youth was spent,
In his love my youth passed
And the prime of my days wore away.
And the days of my prime withered

هِhim (pronoun ending) منof قليلa little مخجلِshameful
Alas for what I squandered on
Alas how much I wasted
Him—so shamefully little!
Of my shy little self

My past is lost; and if I could,
My past is lost and if I could
I would give my future freely.
I would make up with the future

Until I came away deceived,
Until I returned deceiving
And went on utterly deluded.
And went on completely lost

فيin وجهكyour face المتهللِbeaming
I gaze at my tears, appearing
I plead for my tears to show
On your beaming face.
On your gleeful face

شَكوىthe lament of الغريبthe stranger المهملِneglected
So I imagine your eye was stirred
So your eyes would shake
By the neglected stranger's lament;
Hearing the complaint of the neglected stranger
فَبَكَتso it wept وتلكand those are دموعهاits tears

So it wept—and those are its tears:
And she cried those were her tears
This one flows, and that one follows.
Flowing down continuously
