And it revealed that there was no friend.

I have felt the thorns of hurt,

I have tasted the thorns of harm

And known the stones of the road.

And tasted the stones of the path

وكأنَّ أيّامي التي

من مصرع ليست تفيق

من مصرع ليست تفيق

And as though my days, which

It seems my days that are not

Do not recover from a downfall,

Waking from death

وكأنَّ موصول الضنى

وكأنَّ موصول الضنى

يَمتاحُ من جُرحٍ عميق

يَمتاحُ من جُرحٍ عميق

And as though unbroken suffering

It seems the connected sorrows

Draws water from a deep wound:

Are afforded from a deep wound

زرعٌ على ظُلَلٍ فذا

زرعٌ على ظُلَلٍ فذا

أبداً لصاحبه رفيق

أبداً لصاحبه رفيق

A crop upon canopies—so this

A planting on shadows, so it is

Is forever its owner's companion.

Never a companion to its owner

هذا الذي سَقَت الدمو

هذا الذي سَقَت الدمو

ع وذاك ما أبقى الحريق

ع وذاك ما أبقى الحريق

This is what the tears watered,

This that the tears have irrigated

And that is what the fire left behind.

And that is what the blaze has left
