أحببتُI loved ميَّةMayya حبّاًa love لاnot يُعادلهmatches it
أحببتُ ميَّة حبّاً لا يُعادله
حبٌّlove وأفنيتand I spent فيهاfor her العمرthe lifetime أجمعَهall of it
حبٌّ وأفنيت فيها العمر أجمعَه
I loved Mayya with a love unmatched
I loved Mayya with a love that cannot be matched
By any love, and for her I spent my whole life.
A love in which I spent my whole life
أُحبُّI love عمريmy life الذيwhich فيin قربnearness to ميَّMayy وماand what
أُحبُّ عمري الذي في قرب ميَّ وما
قدhas مرَّpassed منfrom دونهاwithout her ماhow كانwas أضيعهhow wasted it was
قد مرَّ من دونها ما كان أضيعه
I love my life spent near Mayy; and what
I love the life that is spent near Mayya
Has passed without her—how wasted it was!
And I regret whatever of it passed without her
ياO ميّMayy ياO قلبيmy heart الثانيthe second أعيشI live بهthrough it
يا ميّ يا قلبي الثاني أعيش به
وإنand even if يكنit is فوقbeyond ظنِّيmy imagining أنّنيthat I معهwith it
وإن يكن فوق ظنِّي أنّني معه
O Mayy, O my second heart, through which I live,
O Mayya, O my second heart in which I live
Though it is beyond my imagining that I am with it.
Even if beyond my hopes that I am with her
ياO بضعةa fragment منof كيانbeing الصبّthe ardent lover نابضةpulsing
يا بضعة من كيان الصبّ نابضة
بكلwith all حبٍّlove بهin him الرحمنthe All-Merciful أودعهplaced it
بكل حبٍّ به الرحمن أودعه
O fragment of the ardent lover's being, pulsing
O a piece of the being of my youth pulsating
With all the love the All-Merciful has placed within him.
With all the love that the Most Merciful endowed in her
