1. هبَّ علينا عطرُ أنسامٍ

    من ساحرِ المقلةِ بسَّامِ

    The fragrance of gentle breezes wafted over us,

    From an ever-smiling one with enchanting eyes.

  2. ما حلَّ حتى سارَ في ركبِه

    معجزُ ألبابٍ وأفهام

    No sooner had he arrived than in his train came

    A marvel baffling minds and understanding.

  3. فحسنه ملهِم أقلامٍ

    وشاعرٍ شادٍ ورسامِ

    For his beauty inspires pens,

    And a singing poet and a painter.

  4. وكيفَ لا يسمو بأرواحِنَا

    لطف كلمحِ الكوكبِ السامي

    And how could our souls not be uplifted

    By a grace like the gleam of a lofty star?

  5. يلمع لَمعَ البرقِ في رقةٍ

    وكلُّ برقٍ وحي إلهامِ

    It gleams like lightning, with tenderness,

    And every lightning flash is a revelation of inspiration.

  6. وكلُّ لَحظٍ مرسلٍ للورى

    يد المداوي فوقَ آلامِ

    And every glance sent forth to humankind

    Is the healer's hand over suffering.

  7. وعينها النجلاء إن تَلتفت

    فموقع الصهباء في الجامِ

    And if her large, lovely eye turns,

    Then its effect is that of tawny wine in the goblet.

  8. وأينما حلَّت بنا نضَّرَت

    ببسمةٍ عابسَ أيَّامِ

    And wherever she came among us, she brightened

    With a smile, the frowning face of days.

  9. لقد تجلَّت قدرةٌ من علٍ

    مذ أنعمَ اللهُ بأنَعامِ

    Indeed, a power from on high was revealed,

    Since God blessed us with An‘am.
