Whenever you attain it, it is what our souls wish for.
Whenever we attained it, it was a wish fulfilled for ourselves,
Look around: you will find all Egypt here.
You find Egypt in its entirety here,
وماand it is not بعجيبat all surprising موطنthe abode البدرthe full moon فيin العلىthe heights

وماand it is not بجديدnew أنthat يرىit regards الأفقthe horizon مسكناas a dwelling
It is no wonder that the full moon's abode is on high,
And it is not strange that the full moon resides on high,
And nothing new that it should regard the horizon as its home.
Nor is it new that the horizon is seen as a dwelling.

But a free man's heart is overtaken by ecstasy,
But the heart of the freeman is thrilled with delight,
So he praises the blessings, radiant with light,
So he lavishes praise on the bounties and splendor of the radiance.

When the shining full moon took its place
For the shining full moon has taken its place,
And was granted dominion over heaven's horizons and stood secure.
And ruled the horizons of the sky and settled there.

That is spring's tribute to a garden
So this is how spring honors a garden,
Which the Abazas made resplendent, luxuriant with fruit.
Adorned by the Abbasids, abundant in harvest.

Yes, a garden that became, for every great deed,
Indeed a garden that has become great for every noble one,
And for virtue, literature, and learning, a home,
And a home for merit, refinement, and knowledge,

And an arena for those racing toward glory and eminence,
And a field of competition for glory and ascendance,
When other arenas bristle with spears.
When other fields are overgrown with reeds.

When a master of lofty literature departs,
When a master of high literature departs,
Another advances toward the banner, never faltering.
Another approaches the banner, so it does not waver.

Verse with unruly rhymes hurried toward you,
Recalcitrant metre hurried eagerly towards you,
And answered your call from the heart's deepest reaches and yielded.
And yielded to you from the depths of the heart and submitted.

And you are the one who loosened all the chains
You who have released all the shackles,
From poetry, refusing to let it be humiliated and imprisoned.
From poetry, refusing that it be disgraced and imprisoned.

When one of pure mettle calls upon poetry once,
When the pure ore calls out to poetry once,
We offer him ore from the finest verse.
We offer it the finest poetry as its ore.

Desouki, if I have offered little, accept my greeting;
Dusūqī, though I give inadequate praise,
For I am neither their singer nor the best of them.
Accept my greeting, for I am not their eulogizer or benefactor.

But I am the voice of all who love you,
Rather, I am the voice of all the lovers,
And fruit from your cherished garden and their orchard.
And from your esteemed garden and their orchard I have picked fruit.

A moth circling the lamp of your glory—
A moth circling the lamp of your glory,
And what moth has not drawn near your splendor?
And what moth approaches your majesty without burning?

And I am the echo of the whisper in their hearts,
I am but the echo of the whisper in their hearts,
So let me rise to proclaim what they conceal.
So let me proclaim what they secretly harbor.
