جديرٌ بهذا الظُّلم والريبِ والشكِّ

You doubt my love; you have the right, for I am

You rebuke me for my love, but truly

deserving of this injustice, suspicion, and doubt;

I deserve this injustice, doubt and suspicion.

خليقٌ بأن تَنسَي هواي فتنطوي

خليقٌ بأن تَنسَي هواي فتنطوي

سعادةُ أيامي التي ذُقتُها منكِ

سعادةُ أيامي التي ذُقتُها منكِ

worthy of your forgetting my love, thus ending

It's fitting you forget my passion and withdraw

the happiness of my days that I tasted from you—

The joy of my days, which I tasted with you.

إذا أنا لم أذكُركِ في كل لحظةٍ

إذا أنا لم أذكُركِ في كل لحظةٍ

وقصّرتُ لم أسأل ثوانِيها عنك

وقصّرتُ لم أسأل ثوانِيها عنك

if I do not remember you at every moment,

If I didn't remember you every moment

and fall short, not asking its seconds about you;

And was remiss, not asking seconds about you,

إذا أنا لم أبذُل شجايَ وعَبرَتي

إذا أنا لم أبذُل شجايَ وعَبرَتي

على كل وقتٍ ضائعٍ كنتُ لا أبكي

على كل وقتٍ ضائعٍ كنتُ لا أبكي

if I do not pour out my anguish and my tears

If I didn't shed my anguish and tears

over every wasted moment when I was not weeping,

for every lost moment when I did not weep,

فلا حبَّ عندي أستلذُّ به الجوى

فلا حبَّ عندي أستلذُّ به الجوى

بما فيه من سقمٍ وما فيه من ضنك

بما فيه من سقمٍ وما فيه من ضنك

then I have no love through which to savor passion's pain,

Then I have no love that gives me pleasure

with the sickness it holds and the distress it holds.

With its illness and with its confinement.

أليلايَ حُبِّي فيك حُبُّ مُوَحِّدٍ

أليلايَ حُبِّي فيك حُبُّ مُوَحِّدٍ

تَنَزَّهَ عن ريبٍ وجلَّ عن الشِّرك

تَنَزَّهَ عن ريبٍ وجلَّ عن الشِّرك

O my Layla, my love for you is a monotheist's love,

My love for you is the love of a monotheist

free of doubt and exalted above polytheism.

Free of doubt and lofty beyond idolatry.

تَبَقَّى بقاءَ القلب يَنبِضُ دائماً

تَبَقَّى بقاءَ القلب يَنبِضُ دائماً

وليسَ لسلوانٍ وليس إلى تَرك

وليسَ لسلوانٍ وليس إلى تَرك

It endures as long as the heart keeps beating,

It remains as the heart continues throbbing

and is not to be forgotten, nor to be forsaken.

Not inclined to boredom and not prone to leaving.
