Do not say, as you depart,
Do not say upon your departure,
“May God gladden your evening.”

أيُّwhat سعدٍjoy لخليلِكfor your beloved
أيُّ سعدٍ لخليلِك
شيَّعَsent off الروحَthe soul وراءَكafter you
شيَّعَ الروحَ وراءَك
What joy is there for your beloved,
What joy is there for your friend
who has sent his soul after you?
Who has bid farewell to his soul?
إِنif تُقِمyou stay عنديwith me ظلاميmy darkness
إِن تُقِم عندي ظلامي
يستَحِلwill turn into ليلِيmy night ضياءlight
يستَحِل ليلِي ضياء
If you stay with me in my darkness,
If you stay with me, my darkness
my night will turn to light.
Becomes illuminated by your light.
منكَfrom you لوif كانتit were تباعsold
منكَ لو كانت تباع
أشتريهَاI would buy it بالحياهwith life
