I am indeed content with the shadows of my loved ones—

with a sister's tenderness, or a hand offered in greeting,

and with a sitting I found pleasant in a room

that bore the fragrance of the absent one I envisioned.

O Hind's sister, tell her that I am

a lovesick man who lives with a sufferer's heart.

    A lovesick man, I have grown weary of life without her;

I do not love if I have not grown weary.

And the day passed—yet it was no day, for it

stretches for me like a dark void.

O Hind's house, if you consent, speak.

O her house, live on for Hind, and be safe.

So my blood is the ransom for love of Hind alone,

and I would still fall short if I gave her my blood.

And indeed I swore to her, with my tears as witness,

that I have wasted away, whether you knew or did not know.
