Riding camels were made to kneel for them at al-Tufuf;
I hurried them at dawn when the riders embarked
And fate's summoner called them, and they answered.
And the caller of destiny called, so they responded

And when they savored the dust from the sky of war,
When they had their fill of the exquisite drink of war
Gray-haired men among them and youths stirred it up.
It aroused in them both gray hair and youth

They lead the helpers to war enthusiastic
With a bounding gallop through the reaches of open space.

Bearing polished swords that clanged
Stout against the blows of blades, unyielding.

Indeed, they were enamored of the white ones—keen swords—
Passionate for white blades and scimitars
And of singers' melodies—really sword-blows.
To the rhythm of drums - beating, pounding

Battle positions, battle lines formed by the likes of them
Lions whose thickets are the blue spearheads.
Lions with tongues as blue as the darkest of nights

Of the Prophet's daughter, angry in the fray's tumult

Yearning for God's reward, and for so long
They returned to all that brings recompense.

When the Khatti spear grows thirsty in the thick of battle,
When the excited swordsman thirsts in battle's heat
It drinks nothing but the water of hearts.
Only the drink of courage quenches his thirst

If the Indian in war sheaths his sword
Its sheath is nothing but a head and necks.
The sheath is but necks and heads

Their glory—far be setting from them—yet they vanished.
