I complained to my master of dwelling in a land

I complained to my lord of a land

Whose people a life of ease has shunned.

Whose people shun a life of ease.

نزلت أباد بيغ فانبدغنا

نزلت أباد بيغ فانبدغنا

به مذ كظتنا البرد الشديد

به مذ كظتنا البرد الشديد

I lodged in Abad Beyg, and we became begrimed

We alighted at evening in a palm grove

There, since the bitter cold overwhelmed us.

And were drenched by a shower before the first night.

فذي سبخاؤه بيضاء ملح

فذي سبخاؤه بيضاء ملح

وأوجهنا من الدخان سود

وأوجهنا من الدخان سود

So here is its salt flat, white with salt,

Now it is green and bright with white salt,

And our faces are black from the smoke.

But our faces are as black as smoke.
