متى يا أبا المهدي تغبق ما غبق

سواك وتجلو الهم والغم والفرق

سواك وتجلو الهم والغم والفرق

When, O Abu al-Mahdi, will you serve an evening draught to one whom

When, O Abu al-Mahdi, will you give an evening draught—none has given one

someone other than you has served—and dispel care, sorrow, and dread?

but you—and dispel worry, sorrow, and fear?

غريق ببحر الدين في ذاك راسب

غريق ببحر الدين في ذاك راسب

ومن واجبات الدين إنقاذ من غرق

ومن واجبات الدين إنقاذ من غرق

A drowning man in the sea of debt, sunk deep in it;

I am drowning in a sea of debt, sinking in it;

and among the duties of faith is rescuing whoever has drowned.

and among the duties of religion is rescuing one who has drowned.
