ولا يدانيك في حكم وفي حكم
إلاexcept شقيقكyour full brother فيin علمknowledge وفيand in عملdeeds
إلا شقيقك في علم وفي عمل
And none rivals you in judgment and wisdom,
None can match you in wisdom and judgment,
except your brother, in knowledge and in deeds.
Except your brother in knowledge and deed.
نهضتماyou two arose والعلىand eminence والمجدand glory طوعكماobedient to you both
نهضتما والعلى والمجد طوعكما
كالظلlike a shadow يتبعfollows فيin حلsettling ومرتحلand departure
كالظل يتبع في حل ومرتحل
You two arose, with eminence and glory at your command,
You both arose, glory and honor obey you,
following like a shadow, at rest and on the road.
Like a shadow that follows settled or roaming.
لاnot يهتديfind guidance الناسthe people إلاexcept فيكماthrough you both ومتىand when
لا يهتدي الناس إلا فيكما ومتى
أغنىsufficed عنin place of النيرينthe two luminaries الضوءthe light منfrom زحلSaturn
أغنى عن النيرين الضوء من زحل
People find guidance only through you two—and when
People are not guided but through you both, whenever
has Saturn's light ever sufficed in place of the two luminaries?
The light of Saturn makes the two lights needless.
ياO أهلmembers بيتa household تولىundertook اللَهGod رفعتهits exaltation
يا أهل بيت تولى اللَه رفعته
ماnot فيكمamong you غيرnot معصومprotected منfrom الزللerror
ما فيكم غير معصوم من الزلل
O household whose exaltation God undertook,
O People of the House whom God has raised high,
none among you is unprotected from error.
Among you is none but the infallible from error.
أنتyou (singular) عنon behalf of اللَهGod أسستمyou all established شرائعهHis laws
أنت عن اللَه أسستم شرائعه
كأنكمas though you were أنبياءprophets العزمfirm resolve فيamong الرسلthe messengers
كأنكم أنبياء العزم في الرسل
You, on God's behalf, established His laws,
You have established from God His laws,
as though you were the prophets of firm resolve among the messengers.
As if you are the prophets of resolve among messengers.
صفوتمyou became pure فاصطفاكمso He chose you ربكمyour Lord حرساguardians
صفوتم فاصطفاكم ربكم حرسا
لدينهfor His religion وولاةand holders of authority الأمرaffairs فيin الأزلbeginningless eternity
لدينه وولاة الأمر في الأزل
You were pure, so your Lord chose you as guardians
You are the elite, so your Lord chose you as guards
of His religion, and as holders of authority from eternity.
For His religion, and rulers of authority from eternity.
لاmay not روعتfrighten لكمfor you الأيامthe days سربa flock حجىًwisdom
لا روعت لكم الأيام سرب حجىً
بلىyes, indeed إذاwhen ريعwas frightened منهby it قنةsummit الجبلthe mountain
بلى إذا ريع منه قنة الجبل
May the days never frighten your flock of wise minds;
Days have not frightened you, a flock of calamities,
indeed, when the mountain's summit is frightened by it.
Rather, when the mountain's link is emptied.
Sol 6.1
