Turn aside, you two, to the site of the crumbling ruin,
With ruins that circle endlessly,
At al-Khuld, with its stone and brick,
Of marble, brick, and stone masonry,
والمرمرِand marble المنسوبof distinguished provenance يطلىis faced بهwith it

والبابُ بابُ الذهبِ الناضرِ
And choice marble used to face it,
And marble attributed and lined
And its gate a gate of gleaming gold.
With a door of polished, shiny gold.

على يقين قدرةِ القادرِ
Turn aside to it, and there be convinced
Ruins where we were certain,
Beyond all doubt of the power of the All-Powerful.
Of the power of the Able.

To the Master of all commands.

Say to him: O son of Abu al-Nasir,
Say to him, O son of Abu Nasir,
Purge God's lands of Tahir.
Purify the lands of God, from the pure.

ذبحَ الهدايا بمدى الجازر
It was not enough for him to slit his jugular veins,
It did not suffice that he tore his viscera,
As sacrificial animals are slaughtered with the butcher's knives;
Slaughtering offerings as far as the butcher goes.

في شطنٍ هذا مدى السائر
He even came dragging his jugular veins
Until he came pulling his own viscera,
On a long rope—this is the traveler's end.
In a riverbed, such is the wayfarer's reach.
قدalready بردsettled cold الموتُdeath علىupon جنبهhis side

Death has settled cold upon his side,
Death has cooled upon his side,
So his eye's gaze is broken.
So his gaze is broken, no longer seeing.
