The night has passed, yet my night will not pass.

And my eyelids have not drunk their fill of sleep.

إذاwhen صدturns away عنكfrom you الدهرُTime يوماًone day بوجههwith its face
إذا صد عنك الدهرُ يوماً بوجهه
تقاضاكdemands repayment from you منof إحسانهits kindness سالفearlier القرضthe loan
تقاضاك من إحسانه سالف القرض
If Fortune turns its face away from you one day,
When Time one day turns its face away from you,
it calls on you to repay the former loan of its kindness.
It demands that you repay its earlier loan of kindness.
