    إدامَ الضنى سخطك الدائمُ

    O benefactor, you have never ceased bestowing favors;

    your enduring wrath sustains my wasting sickness.

    I was wronged; but if you say, 'No, rather you did wrong,'

    then I myself am the liar, the sinner.

    And I seek God's forgiveness for my lapse,

    for I am downcast because of its guilt.

    Even the forbearing man may be startled, and the noble steed may stumble,

    and the keen sword may glance off when it strikes.

    فاحكم بما شئت يا حاكم

    So here I am, seeking refuge and protection;

    so judge as you wish, O judge.

    I disobeyed and repented, just as once did

    Adam, who repented to his Lord.

    فقد يغفرُ الغافرُ الراحمُ

    So speak Joseph's words: do not reproach;

    for the Forgiver, the Merciful, may forgive.

    For I shall not return to a lapse,

    for all time, as long as those who stand sit down.
