أَتىcame to يوسُفُYusuf الفَياضُal-Fayyad نُعمانَNu‘man فَاِنجَلىand so shone forth
أَتى يوسُفُ الفَياضُ نُعمانَ فَاِنجَلى
بِهِthrough him كَأسُa cup صَفوٍserenity فاضَoverflowed بالنِعَمِwith blessings الحُسنَىthe finest
بِهِ كَأسُ صَفوٍ فاضَ بالنِعَمِ الحُسنَى
Yusuf al-Fayyad came to Nu‘man, and there shone forth
Yusuf the generous came to Nu'man and shone
Through him a cup of serenity, overflowing with the finest blessings.
With him a cup of pure wine overflowed with gifts of beauty
جَلاshone forth قَمَراًas a moon أَرِّخْrecord the date مُضيئاًradiant بِبُزغِهِat his rising
جَلا قَمَراً أَرِّخْ مُضيئاً بِبُزغِهِ
فياso, O حسنَthe beauty of تاريخٍa chronogram بِتاريخِهِthrough its date هَنَىbrought joy
فيا حسنَ تاريخٍ بِتاريخِهِ هَنَى
He shone as a moon—record the date!—radiant at his rising.
He rose like a moon, date it radiant in its rising
What a lovely chronogram, bringing joy through its date!
What a beautiful date in its dating it rejoiced
