زُرvisit قَبرَthe grave of ميخائيلMikha'il رَيحانَRayhan الَّذيwho
زُر قَبرَ ميخائيل رَيحانَ الَّذي
قَدindeed حَلَّsettled in حُفرَتَهِhis grave-pit كَماas حَكَمَdecreed الرَّدَىdeath
قَد حَلَّ حُفرَتَهِ كَما حَكَمَ الرَّدَى
Visit the grave of Mikha'il Rayhan, who
Visit the grave of Michael Rayhan who
has settled in his grave-pit, as death decreed.
His pit became as decreed by fate
شَهمٌa noble-hearted man قَضىdied فَثَوىand so lay at rest بِجانبِbeside مَضجَعٍa resting place
شَهمٌ قَضى فَثَوى بِجانبِ مَضجَعٍ
أَمسىcame to be بِهِin it شَخصُthe embodiment الكَمالِof perfection مُوَسَّداpillowed
أَمسى بِهِ شَخصُ الكَمالِ مُوَسَّدا
A noble-hearted man, he died and lay beside a resting place
A brave man who passed away and was buried next
where the embodiment of perfection came to lie pillowed.
To where the epitome of perfection lay his head
قَدindeed عاشَlived مَمدوحَpraised for الصَنيعِhis deeds وَلَمand did not يَزَلcease
قَد عاشَ مَمدوحَ الصَنيعِ وَلَم يَزَل
بِالخَيرِwith praise مَذكوراًremembered عَلىover طُولِthe length of المَدىtime
بِالخَيرِ مَذكوراً عَلى طُولِ المَدى
He lived praised for his deeds, and has never ceased
He lived praised for his work and never stopped
to be remembered with praise throughout the ages.
Being mentioned for his virtues over time
وَلَقَدand indeed كَتَبتُI wrote مؤرِّخاًrecording the date مِنfrom فَوقِهِabove him
وَلَقَد كَتَبتُ مؤرِّخاً مِن فَوقِهِ
ياO تُربةَsoil of الرَيحانِRayhan (also basil) يَسقيكِmay it water you النَّدَىthe dew
يا تُربةَ الرَيحانِ يَسقيكِ النَّدَى
And above him I wrote, recording the date:
And I wrote above him chronicling
O soil of Rayhan, may the dew water you.
O soil of Rayhan, may the dew water you
