هَذاthis ضَريحُtomb طَبيبِناour physician الشَهمِthe noble-hearted الَّذيwho
هَذا ضَريحُ طَبيبِنا الشَهمِ الَّذي
قَصَفَتshattered شَبيبتَهُhis youth يَدُthe hand الأَقدارِof fate
قَصَفَت شَبيبتَهُ يَدُ الأَقدارِ
This is the tomb of our noble physician, whose
youth was shattered by the hand of fate.
أَبكىmade weep طَرابُلُسَTripoli الشآمَal-Sham (the Levant) وَدونَهاand on this side of it
أَبكى طَرابُلُسَ الشآمَ وَدونَها
يَبكيهِmourns him لُبنانُLebanon مَدىthroughout الأَدهارِthe ages
يَبكيهِ لُبنانُ مَدى الأَدهارِ
He made Tripoli of al-Sham weep, and on this side of it
Lebanon mourns him through the ages.
فَلَكُمso to you بَنيsons of الخَورِيal-Khuri العَزاءُconsolation لِأَنَّهُfor he
فَلَكُم بَني الخَورِي العَزاءُ لِأَنَّهُ
قَدindeed حَلَّcame to dwell عِندَwith اللَّهِGod خَيرَthe best جِوارِcompany
قَد حَلَّ عِندَ اللَّهِ خَيرَ جِوارِ
So, sons of al-Khuri, take consolation, for he
has come to dwell with God, in the best of company.
وَعِبارةُand the wording التأريخِof the chronogram أَمْلَتْdictated فَوقَهُabove him
وَعِبارةُ التأريخِ أَمْلَتْ فَوقَهُ
نالَattained السَليمُSalim (the unharmed one) سَلامةَpeace الأَبرارِof the righteous
نالَ السَليمُ سَلامةَ الأَبرارِ
And above him, the chronogram's wording declared:
Salim attained the peace of the righteous.
