هَذاthis النَطاسِيُّthe skilled physician الَّذيwho مِنfrom بَعدِهِafter him
هَذا النَطاسِيُّ الَّذي مِن بَعدِهِ
بَكَتِwept العُيونُthe eyes بِدَمعِwith the tears of كُلِّevery عَليلِailing person
بَكَتِ العُيونُ بِدَمعِ كُلِّ عَليلِ
This is the skilled physician, after whose passing
This generous man, after whom
the eyes wept with the tears of every sufferer.
All ailing eyes shed tears—
قَدindeed كانَhe was مَملوكat others’ command المَنافعِthe services مالِكاًa master
قَد كانَ مَملوك المَنافعِ مالِكاً
لِلحَمدِof praise مَعروفاًknown بِكُلfor every جَميلِnoble deed
لِلحَمدِ مَعروفاً بِكُل جَميلِ
His services were others’ to command, yet he was master
Once a slave of wealth’s dominion,
of praise, known for every noble deed.
Now fam’d for virtues and good cheer—
وَلَقَدand indeed مَضىhe passed on فَثَوىand so he dwelt باكرمِin the noblest جَنَّةٍgarden
وَلَقَد مَضى فَثَوى باكرمِ جَنَّةٍ
طابَتit grew fragrant فَضَّمَتand so it embraced مِنهُin him خَيرthe finest نَزيلِguest
طابَت فَضَّمَت مِنهُ خَير نَزيلِ
And indeed he passed on and dwelt in the noblest garden;
Has sped to a most blessed Garden,
it grew fragrant and embraced in him the finest guest.
The best of hosts, its joys to share.
وَبِوَفدِهِand at his arrival أَرِّخrecord the date مَلائكةَthe angels of العُلىthe heights
وَبِوَفدِهِ أَرِّخ مَلائكةَ العُلى
حَيَّتgreeted جَميعاًall together وَجهَthe face of ميخائيلِMikhail
حَيَّت جَميعاً وَجهَ ميخائيلِ
And date his arrival thus: the angels on high
His death the angels record, crying,
all greeted the face of Mikhail.
“Greetings to you, Michael, well fare!”
