This beloved of Banu al-Jallad has been struck down

by death on an unforeseen day.

At thirty-four, alas, they came to an end—

his days, from which he had gained nothing he desired.

And after the wedding he left his family mourning him,

at a calamity before which even Job's patience would falter.

And he has grieved hearts—mark the date by their burning:

After Yaqub, they endured the grief of Jacob.
