جَمعيةً للنهى أَذكَت مَنارَتَها
The noble Tripolitans founded for us
The generous people of Tripoli established for us
An association for reason that kindled its beacon.
An association for prohibition that ignited its beacon

A people whose generous hands and resolve vied with one another,
A people whose hands and aspirations succeeded
Until they repelled the onslaught of ignorance’s armies.
Until they bent the raids of ignorance into retreat

They have renewed learning’s splendor from its crumbling remains,
They renewed the delight of knowledge from its remnants
And clothed glory’s fair maidens in their finery.
And dressed the songs of glory with its insignia

Clouds of bounty—record their date—in gardens of guidance;
Clouds of virtue that poured in the gardens of guidance
Through learning you dated them; they revived the gardens’ freshness.
You dated it with knowledge, revived its freshness
