Stand early beside a grave whose earth received
Stand early at a grave now hosting its soil
A full moon, betrayed by its nights at its fullness.
A full moon by the darkness, its nights failed it

وَيَندبُ الفَضلُ وَالإِحسانُ أَيديهِ
Virtues and piety weep for his noble qualities,
Virtues weep, and piety weeps its features
And excellence and benevolence mourn his hands.
Merit grieves, and kindness grieves its hands

He received mercies in the abode of eternity, just as
He attained mercies in the Abode of Eternity as
We call him Abu Rahma, 'Father of Mercy.'
He is called Father of Mercy in what we name him

Thus his chronicler's hand inscribed for him:
Thus his chronicler by his hand etched for him
Elias is, without doubt, alive with his Maker.
Elias, no doubt, alive by his Creator
