كَتَبتُI wrote وَدَمعيand my tears مُستَهِلٌّstreaming صَبابةًout of longing
يُداعبcaresses كَفِّيmy hand كُلَّماwhenever كَتَبتْit wrote سَطراa line
I wrote while my tears streamed with longing,
Caressing my hand whenever it wrote a line.
وَإِنَّand indeed فُؤاديmy heart عِندَat ذِكرِكَthe mention of you ذائِبٌmelting
فَكَيفَso how بِماءِwith the water of الدَمعِthe tears فيin مُقلَةٍan eye شَكرىbrimming
And indeed, my heart melts at the mention of you;
What, then, of the tear-water in a brimming eye?
