أَنعِمhow splendid بِرُتبةِthe rank of سَيِّدٍa lord شَمَلَتembraced
أَنعِم بِرُتبةِ سَيِّدٍ شَمَلَت
كُلّall الوَرىmankind مِنfrom فَضلِهِhis bounty المِنَنُthe favors
كُلّ الوَرى مِن فَضلِهِ المِنَنُ
How splendid the rank of a lord whose favors have embraced
You have been graced with the rank of master,
all mankind through his bounty.
Your favors have encompassed all the land.
جاءَتكَcame to you ثالِثةٌa third لِأَولfor the foremost of مَنthose who
جاءَتكَ ثالِثةٌ لِأَول مَن
يَزهوtakes pride بِحُسنِin the beauty of صِفاتهhis qualities الزَمَنُtime
يَزهو بِحُسنِ صِفاته الزَمَنُ
A third has come to you, foremost among those
Three have come to the first one
in the beauty of whose qualities Time takes pride.
Whose virtues make time itself shine.
ياO حَبَذاhow welcome شَرَفٌan honor عَلىupon شَرَفٍan honor
يا حَبَذا شَرَفٌ عَلى شَرَفٍ
وَبِماand of what أَصابَgained كِلاهُماboth of them قَمِنُworthy
وَبِما أَصابَ كِلاهُما قَمِنُ
Ah, how welcome—honor upon honor!
How excellent, honor above honor,
And both are worthy of what each has gained.
And with what both have been endowed.
كَمياهِlike the waters of قَطرٍrain فَوقَupon خُضرِgreen رُبىًhills
كَمياهِ قَطرٍ فَوقَ خُضرِ رُبىً
فيهاin them تَجلَّىshone forth وَجهُكَyour face الحَسَنُbeautiful
فيها تَجلَّى وَجهُكَ الحَسَنُ
Like rainwater upon green hills,
Like drops of rain above green pastures
in which your beautiful face shone forth.
In which your beautiful face appeared.
وافَتarrived كَماas نادىproclaimed مُؤرِّخُهاits chronogram-maker
وافَت كَما نادى مُؤرِّخُها
بِثلاثةٍwith three يُنفَيis banished بِهاby it الحَزَنُsorrow
بِثلاثةٍ يُنفَي بِها الحَزَنُ
It arrived, as its chronogram-maker proclaimed:
It has reached, as its chronicler called out,
“With three, sorrow is thereby banished.”
With three, by which sorrow is dispelled.
